Early Spring Roller Kite Flying

I made this Roller during the winter along with a few others and now that the weather is improving I’ll be trying them out over the next while. I have settled on a design that I think works well on paper at any rate. As mentioned in earlier posts I do not have a connector sleeve between the aft and forward sails. This makes assembling the kite and breaking it down a little easier. I also get a bit more sail area into the bargain. I’ve adjusted the design over time. Instead of having the forward sail spar-pockets hanging in space I’ve added a bit more sail covering to sew the pocket onto.

I’ve also extended the aft-keel in length and used two battens instead of one and both are removable.

I’ve used 6mm carbon-fibre rod throughout when I can. I don’t like glass fibre rod one bit, and the price is almost the same. This makes the kite very light and strong which is an ideal combination.
